American psychological association
The mission of the American Psychological Association (APA) is to “promote the advancement, communication, and application of psychological science and knowledge to benefit society and improve lives” (APA.org). They offer an annual membership that includes 5 free CE credits a year, and much more. They also offer an annual conference.
american foundation for suicide prevention
The American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP) is a volunteer run organization that has a local chapter in all 50 states. They fund scientific research, and educate the public about mental health and suicide prevention. They advocate for public policy concerning mental health and suicide prevention, as well as support survivors and those affected by suicide (AFSP.org).
anxiety & depression association of america
The Anxiety & Depression Association of America (ADAA) is an international non-profit that is dedicated to preventing, treating, and curing anxiety, depression, OCD, PTSD, and other disorders. They plan to do this through evidence based educational resources, professional practice, and scientific research. Through education and partnerships they are helping to end the stigma around mental health (ADAA.org).
National institutes of health
The National Institutes of Health (NIH) is a part of the U.S. Department for Health and Human Services. They are made up of 27 different institutes and centers. Some that may be helpful for counselors are the institutes of Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism, Drug Abuse, Mental Health, and the Center for Complementary and Integrative Medicine (NIH.gov).
